(Stadtmagazin Kiel, 1995)
ZitatWhat I like about it is its often long-arched melodies, its very original and personal sound combinations, and its drive and urgency.
(American Record Guide, 1995)
ZitatSumera's music has all the ingredients that assure success in the late twentieth century: 1) his music has a "spiritual" veneer: it is often meditative and incantory-sounding, which will be interpreted as evidence of great insight and religiosity by many listeners who are attracted to CDs of Gregorian chant and music by Górecki, Pärt and others; 2) Sumera's music often employs the natural repetition technique of archaic Estonian "runo" song, and this accidental coincidence to minimalism will endear him to those who are still impressed by minimalism and and something "different" and "revolutionary"; 3) Sumera's music is organized more through simple alternation of contrasting elements than throug contrapuntal activity or the dynamic developement of melody, and this will be attractive to the more casual listener of classical music...
